Have you ever found yourself wondering, "Who am I to be doing this?" Maybe you’re questioning your abilities, comparing yourself to others, or feeling like you’re one step away from being "found out."
If this sounds familiar, you’re not alone. Imposter syndrome has a sneaky way of creeping into our thoughts, especially as new coaches trying to start a new business.
Here’s the thing: imposter syndrome often shows up because we care deeply about what we’re doing. You REALLY want it to work. It’s a reflection of our desire to be the best we can for our clients.
If you let time go by, it will stall your growth, sap your confidence, and impact the energy we bring into our business.
How Does It Appear in Your Life?
Second-guessing your decisions or advice in coaching sessions?
Feeling like you need another certification to be credible?
Overpreparing for everything but still feeling underqualified?
Comparing yourself to other coaches and thinking, "They’re better than me."
Shrinking back from opportunities because you feel “not ready”?
If any of these resonate, it’s OK. The first step to breaking free from imposter syndrome is recognising it.
Let’s Flip the Script
Your thoughts are powerful, and the way you talk to yourself matters. Here are some techniques to help you reframe those feelings of doubt:
1. Focus on Service
Shift from "Am I good enough?" to "How can I serve my clients today?" Coaching is about creating a supportive space where clients feel heard and empowered. Your clients aren’t looking for perfection; they’re looking for connection
Reframe Your Inner Dialogue
Replace self-doubt with kindness. Instead of saying, "I’m not experienced enough," try, "I’m growing and learning, and every step I take adds value to my clients." How would you speak to a client feeling this way? Offer yourself that same grace.
Take Imperfect Action
Action is the antidote to fear. Start small and remind yourself that progress matters more than perfection. Each step builds confidence and stretches your comfort zone.
Imposter syndrome comes from the fear of being judged, failing, or not being enough. But these fears don’t define you. In fact, they’re a sign that you’re stepping outside your comfort zone—and that’s where growth happens.
Ask yourself: What am I learning about myself in this moment? How can I use this experience to grow?
Time is the biggest enemy of imposter syndrome – the more time you give it the bigger it becomes – so take action TODAY! What’s one small action you can take today to move past imposter syndrome?
