Why Every Life Coach Needs a Coach

When I first stepped into the world of coaching, I genuinely believed I had to figure it all out on my own. I’d done the training. I learnt the tools. I was passionate, committed, and deeply invested in helping others create change. On the outside, I looked ready.

But behind the scenes, it was a very different story.

One moment I felt inspired and aligned. The next, I was second-guessing everything… my abilities, my experience, whether I was really cut out for this work at all. I carried the belief that now that I was a coach, I should have it all together.

And that belief kept me stuck for longer than I’d like to admit.

What I didn’t realise at the time was that being able to support others doesn’t mean you’re meant to do it perfectly - or do it alone. There is no shame in asking for help. In fact, the real turning point in my journey came when I finally reached out and started working with a coach of my own.

Something shifted the moment I took action.

Even before the first session, I felt a sense of empowerment and relief. I had chosen support. And that choice alone changed my energy and built momentum.

Working with my own coach gave me space to unpack the messy thoughts and self-doubt. I stopped comparing myself to others and started reconnecting with why I had chosen this path in the first place, using that as inspiration to move forward.

Coaching was never about having all the answers. It was - and still is - about staying committed to my own growth and being in service to others.

As coaches, we are constantly holding space, listening deeply, and supporting others through their growth. At the same time, we are building a business and putting ourselves out there in very real ways. Visibility and confidence are required right at a time when we feel most vulnerable. And yet, we forget that we need space too. Somewhere to be honest. Somewhere to be supported without needing to perform or have it all together.
